Unlike other equipment located on the rooftops of many buildings, Freewire's equipment does not require the installation of additional power sources. Freewire installations do not require additional work from a licensed electrician. All Freewire radios are powered via the IEEE Standard 802.3 known as Power over Ethernet or PoE. PoE allows Freewire to power its radio with the same low-voltage cable, CAT5e, used to transmit data to and from the radio to the interior equipment. Freewire simply installs a PoE Power Injector inside the building, and the radio receives all the necessary power needed for operation.
